About the Artist

I am Laleh Bagherzadi, a fine artist, mural artist, and educator based in Raleigh, North Carolina.

My connection with art began long before I understood it as a profession. Growing up surrounded by the beauty of nature, I was deeply influenced by the colors, textures, patterns, and rhythms of the world around me. The changing seasons, the shapes of plants, and the quiet details found in natural environments sparked a sense of curiosity and imagination that has remained with me throughout my life.

Creativity and curiosity have always been at the center of who I am. While my fascination with the natural world led me to pursue a Ph.D. in Plant Physiology and a career as a research scientist with the United States Department of Agriculture, my inner artistic voice continued to guide me. Over time, I realized that science and art were not separate paths, but two ways of understanding and expressing the same wonder.

My scientific work taught me patience, observation, and a deeper appreciation for the hidden structures and patterns of nature. My artistic practice allows me to transform those observations into visual stories through color, movement, and emotion.

My journey through different mediums beginning with charcoal, then exploring oil, acrylic, and watercolor  has shaped the way I see and create. Each medium has offered a new language of expression, yet they are all connected through my desire to explore beauty, transformation, and the human connection to the world around us.

Today, I bring these worlds together through my paintings, murals, and teaching. My work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including exhibitions in England and Azerbaijan. I serve as Director of the Central Region for the Watercolor Society of North Carolina and continue to exhibit, teach, and create artwork that invites people to pause, connect, and experience a space in a new way.

For me, art is not only about creating an image. It is about creating a feeling, telling a story, and discovering the connections that exist between nature, people, and the places we call home.
